WERS Compliance audits are a condition of membership and commenced in 2009 for some members upon NATA approval of the accreditation process. They will be conducted for all WERS members in 2010. Audits are conducted by an independent NATA accredited auditor under the existing AWA Accreditation Program.
Members are asked to assist the audit process by having relevant product and documentation available for auditors and these requirements are advised to participating companies prior to the auditor’s attendance. Refusal to undertake an annual audit may jeopardise membership.
Members are welcome to contact the WERS office for clarification or to discuss any concerns.
On 22 January 2010 Senator Kim Carr, the Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science & Research and Senator Penny Wong, Acting Environment Minister announced that new provisions for greenhouse pollution reduction would be included in the national Building Code of Australia (BCA) for 2010. Under the COAG agreement, all jurisdictions have undertaken to adopt the enhanced provisions by 2011. However, because of the policies of States and Territories and the different transitional arrangements in State and Territory law, not all jurisdictions will adopt the new provisions on 1 May 2010. Please contact the AWA for details.

Industry Alert: The Government has deferred its decision on implementing the regulations for 6 Star outlined for update to the BCA 2010. It is not clear why the decision was deferred, however, it appears that after submissions to the Regulatory Impact Statement were reviewed the cost of the regulation may be too high for the benefit 6 Star would create. Whilst it is hard for us to predict what direction this might take it is possible that the Government might revise its timetable for the implementation of 6 Star. It is likely that regular housing will still go ahead, but that commercial and multi-residential will be given more time. We expect a further update early next week.
