From the Executive Director
It has been a hectic first quarter for the AWA with new staff members, the development of an RTO partner for training while increasing our training program offering, and the upgrading of the WERS Star Rating System. All of this and the development of a strategic plan to take the AWA to an even better position to support you, our members.
Add to this the recent change of Federal Government who are “sustainability” focussed and ready for action and you can imagine there will be some major challenges for our industry.
The AWA has now completed its first full workshop as part of the strategic planning process. This work was significantly enhanced by the completed surveys received from 121 members – an outstanding effort.
I am pleased to report that independent analysis of the completed surveys showed that the majority of members consider that the AWA is doing a good job and many survey respondents also provided some excellent suggestions as to what they expect in the future.
The major industry challenges for the future were seen to be keeping track of new standards, ensuring others comply with legislated standards, competing with low cost imports and developing the skills and competence of your people.
Following on from the workshop, our new strategic plan will place particular emphasis on:
- Compliance with standards
- Training and skills development
- Provision of industry knowledge and information
- The AWA as the national voice for the industry, including lobbying activities
- Sustainability, energy efficiency and WERS
We will keep you informed of further developments.
