From the WERS Administrator

Welcome to the May edition of the WERS E-news. The first few months of the year have been busy. We have been involved in a range of projects from testing and rating windows, to developing models to determine how windows perform in buildings.

The WERS database continues to grow on a daily basis, with over 9000 prime ratings resulting in over 32000 options available with all manufacturers included. As the database continues to grow we are constantly further developing and testing the website and its applications. With over 32000 options available the search criteria has been refined to now have more options to search from. We are also currently working on developing an automated compliance certificate web application, keep a look out for that in the near future.

The Sustainable Window Alliance is a project that the AWA invested in which is an economic model to determine how windows perform in various climates and house designs. Some testing was carried out by the AWA which will not only feed into the model, but can also be used to better prepare the industy with respect to whole of house energy ratings. Keep a look out for the reports late May/Early June.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have been asked why my products aren't appearing in the house rating software packages.. when will they be there?

The existing packages, AccuRate, Bers, Firstrate etc are running off older data. The move to NFRC ratings was a big change for all involved, the AWA/WERS put in over 2000 man hours to rerate all products to NFRC, the CSIRO was given grants to redevelop AccuRate to allow NFRC data. We have finished our part, but CSIRO has not be able to complete the upgrade.

We have to wait until its released before any new work will be included, at which point the 9000 ratings mentioned above will all be included. We don't have a set time as yet, but we are told that it is very close to completion.
